Warm night @ Deer pass. Enjoyed slow start. Plan today is to drive to BnB for a road ride and then hang.
Grocery shopped @ 3 stores: Safeway for cheaper groceries, Basha’s for 1554 beer. and New frontiers for good bread. Made BnB. For these road rides I am back into lycra and tight fitting jerseys. Scott upon seeing me said that my clothing is not a sausage casing. Temp is lower but stiff breeze is stirring up dust devils.
Ride plan is Verde Valley school rd then cross oak creek, ride up Upper red rock road then head downhill west from sedona, pick up Lower red rock crossing then return up Verde valley. That’s what I did, sometimes battling head winds. There is a trail above rt 89A between the red rock loops. I rode some dirt today, 8 weeks and a day after fracture. I was careful and i was happy. Rode more of unpaved desert roads. Scott clarified the propedal setting on my shock. I researched the position and I thought I had it right to turn off the propedal. Scott showed me differently. The first ride I did out Verde Valley I had propedal on which limits the rear suspension travel and my eyeballs bounced on the stutter bumps. With the suspension open the next time my eyes remained steady over the bumps. 20.8 miles w/ 1800′ climbing.
Back @ BnB goofing making time pass. Needed a shower @ spa. Headed out. Enjoyed washing the sunscreen off. Plan is to sleep @ Deer pass again. I am @ west end of town when my phone rings. Its Zack @ BnB telling me that the Bicycling folks are there and pizza is on order. I turned around and drove back to the shop. Insiode I met Lou Mazzante, former editor of Bike Mag and Ron and Matt other staffers. All 3 were riding the pick of the litter of bikes for an upcoming test article. I met Lou @ Augusta @ the IMBA World Summit last spring. I got into story telling about people we both knew and places we have been. I pestered Ron about their testing process. He said that manufactures provide them w/ bikes. The 3 of them ride them and make notes on their impressions. Bikes that rate high move to the next round. They have 18 bikes here that are @ the top of their evaluation list. They are here for the week.
I bailed for my desert dash @ Beaverhead. A big RV stole my place. I am @ plan c location.
Tomorrow is a rest day and I will start my taxes and attend to other business matters. Mike work on my bike.
