Rabbit ridge

Every other day, today was other. Last night while prostrate totally in the dark and warm I played out today’s ride in my mind. Technical features, navigation solutions, grunts, and smiles rolled by behind my eye lids. Edible was kicking in causing momentary lapses in memory recall. Ride today is to be Rabbit Ridge and the waterfall then scoot over to Llama. Big Park loop at the start continuing on system trails until turn off onto Old Man’s wash. Twist the degree of difficulty knob 2 clicks towards high. Wash ride: narrow, rocky, twisty; wiggle here and scoot there.

back down some of Old Mans
out of the wash, there are the ears

Trail leaves the wash, becomes Ian’s (?) as it traverses with dips and grunts up to connect with Rabbit Ridge trail. Ah, this piece of the ride. The trail gently climbs on a below grade pedal striker loose rock with horse droppings added for enjoyment tread. The lower seat height has really improved my riding. As has the suspension upgrades. I recall the first ride I did on this trail after installing the Runt in the fork which seemed to make the small rocks even less suspension hits. Oh, today I rode the new I 9 Hydra hub with the We Are One carbon rim. Forgot about that added improvement. I turned on to the waterfall trail crossing the flagged line for a new trail, to the right it drops down to Jack’s canyon and to the left, I did not check out. Dropped down the waterfall trail.

Passed The Wall of Death, followed established trail then left to get over to Llama. Turned onto Bail trail to Bell Rock to Phone Trail, cross the highway catch social over to Coconino up to Slim Shady back to outlet mall and van. 11.6 miles gaining 1030′ pedaling for 1 hr 42 mins.

What a local knows and accepts vesus what a touron experiences. I read trail reviews in Trailforks on the system trails near what I rode, tourons shit all over it. A local learns of the trail and maybe rides it more times. It is what Sedona riding used to be.

Trailer still at close in parking spot, been there for 20 days, FS has not ticketed it. From the pavement out to end of dirt track takes 8 mins driving.

Spider comes out after dark. It makes a cobweb versus a web. Temps are warming up outside such that I am able to leave the door open, perhaps its food flies in. I am letting the cobweb expand coverage on the ceiling. It has been here for many days, I noticed the cobweb and just thought that it just happens because of how I live. One night I happened to shine my headlamp up on the ceiling and spotted a spider. It’s out right now at 8:40 PM dark time. Inside lights don’t make it hide. Some night during a pee break I should spy on the spider.

I am listening to CDs I owned back in house days, I downloaded selected ons onto an Ipod. Dead artists: Jerry Jeff walker and John Prine. I knew them when they were alive. Their music today makes them live again.

3848′ elevation where I sleep. So far cows have not been ranged here. Dead desert.

Slow internet.

Off to read Maltese Falcon.

Prolly ride tomorrow in spite of recovery advisor reporting 31 hours recovery after today’s ride. Average bpm for today was 124.

Still sunny

Mixing every other day this week of riding and resting as the brief periods of red zone beats per minute. concern me.

Yesterday was a ride day and I chose Dead Horse down at Cottonwood. Actually the trails are in the Coconino NF but access is thru Dead Horse SP. Always referred to the trails here as collectively Dead Horse. I park outside the State Park in a city parking lot, prolly the same stall as last March for a ride. I retraced that same route, it is a route in Trail Forks, easy peezy, someone else did the navigation work. Costs $3.00 to pedal through the park. Climbed Bones trail that was partially built during an IMBA trail care crew visit a bunch of years ago. Morgan and Steve were the crew. Grazing cows in dead desert. Only steered around their notices. Drier, lower elevation, less elevation relief. Trails are pedaling. Full sun exposure, today I dressed too warmly.

Bones intersection Dead Horse

Maybe Lime Kiln trail?

19.2 miles pedaling for 2 hrs 22 mins, climbed 1365′, burned 928 cals, average bpm was 124, that was yesterday. Previous ride was March 3 last year. Today I was 4 mins faster and 4 bpm lower and less time spent anaerobic. Amazing, same amount of cals. I am riding stronger that last year as the data reports. I just ride as data is generated then read the result. I only ride the ride to ride it, I have no thought of how to affect result, I just ride. when I ride by myself, almost exclusively, my ride is head up and pedal from start to finish. Since consuming THC during the ride I stop more than before. Last year’s ride was straight, not so this year. My saddle is lower which changes my pedal stroke for the way better as I am really muscling the pedals which means faster average mph. Races are won on the climbs.

Today was cleaning of the clothes etc. And a rest day.

Shopped at marijuana dispensary here in uptown. Tourist town. Wonder about same adding legal consumption to their visit. Would be interesting to people watch the shoppers. Bought concentrate,  1 hit packs a punch parked here behind the outlet mall. 3 bar 4g internet.

Rereading Sycamore Row  his writing is still page turning and my attention holder. Reading in bed past 10 PM.

Zags play at 5 on XM. Gotta hang up now.

It’s Monday

How did you start your work week? Like me a leisurely tolerable breakfast accepting solar gain to warm the 31 degrees outside up? No rush hour work commute. Ah, Mondays are not that much different from other days unless it is Thursday and or the Zags are playing. Furnace runs all night long, water is not frozen. I am better off than the poor sots in texas. Someone might invite themselves into my 66 sq foot domicile. Should be paying attention to Texas license plates.

Rode on Sat, started out while wind was calm before prediciticed 3X mph gusts. However, I did experience teens mph, most nasty of Mystic pedaling into it uphill. encountered more bikers than hikers today.

Sunday I left the outlet mall lot pedaling Verde Valley school rd out to Turkey creek. 3 miles of pavement before 1st dirt. Once on the dirt my heart rate increased going higher than it should, like max of 171. I abandoned my ride as this Heart rate was unhealthy high. I checked the edge with my finger device and the numbers matched. My body was telling me something that I do not understand. Today I planned a ride that would provide data to learn if Sun was an abnormality. Today I rode Old Post, Skywalker, Scorpion, Old Post, Carroll canyon. Another high heart rate ride. Dunno. maybe a rest day tomorrow.

Going to send in my camera to be fixed.

Internet speed is non existent out at MP4 5 PM, time to join rush traffic to the desert. Heard coyotes putting the night to bed this morning.
