Hangin at Swampy

Maybe 10 degrees cooler up here than down in town. Spent Sunday night here then on Monday drove down to town for PT, water, and groceries. Then drove back up and finished the day resting. Today during morning I completed a breath data gathering protocol which required restricted diet for 12 hours then 12 hours fast. White rice, eggs, and rotissory(sp) chicken. Finished eating right before 8 PM, next food won’t be until 11 today. Not even b fast coffee.

Right after test completion I scarfed a sandwich (gluten free bread). Energy load for my ride which was same as 2 days ago but in other direction which spared me of grinder climb on Swedes. Forest cover here transitions from lodgepole, some of which has been logged, to old growth big hemlocks.

lodgepole forest not logged on ridge
hemlock forest just down the ways
some of Swede ridge, hemlock, XC ski winter time right of way cut.
coasters on left brake bumps , climbers on right smooth (per picture)

Above is illustration of trail widening. Brake bumps are no fun to pedal over so climbers create a new line which the coasters will prolly not use as they will work the berm. No control point before the turn to scrub speed off before the turn which would not cause brake bumps. Trails handled the use for years as there were few. Today with Bend being noted for riding and heavy use of shuttle service. Paying $ to be dropped off high then coast back to town. I write coasting as that’s what I do enjoying free speed, I do not enhance my speed. I am a heavy front brake user with support of rear brake. My suspension allows me to ride the bumps, sometimes an alt line exists. Reminds me of riding and racing dirt bikes back in mid 70s. Turn could be railed or squared off, the later not working for us because we lack motor enhanced exit. However, I use what the trail gives to me and constantly look way ahead.

Ride data was 2 mins difference, today my heart beat faster and longer. Today average BPM was 127, the other way 115. I attribute difference to my body was dealing with something. 11.4 miles pedaling for 1 hr 29 mins climbing 1155′. These trails up here receive lesser use than down low but downhill trails like Flagline get shuttle hammered.

My dental check up back in Jan suggested that I have my teeth cleaned a second time this year. I know that and here in Bend I should be able to be accepted as a new patient. Then a molar started barking that needs to be resolved. Yesterday I hiked a ways up Ridge trail to receive a stronger signal than here. I google researched. Today I called the 2 I selected, 1st voice mail, 2nd 1st opening is a month out. I asked for suggestions, I called their 1 choice. Appointment tomorrow morning. Necessity moves the needle.

fridge is not getting low enough because of high temps. The freezer has a block of frozen condensation on rear wall which prolly affect cooling. Inside temp was towards 50 degrees that the fridge will struggle to lower much. I defrosted it with heated to 140 degrees water in small pot. After 3 reheats back to 140 the ice broke free. That was quick. Stared it back up. Temp is not quite warm beer but getting there.
