Things I don’t understand

But it isn’t up to me to understand.

Power, in the form of energy and position.

dumb commanded the Interior Secretary to allow ebikes on BLM non motorized trails. 2 kinds of power: pedal assist mtn bikes and BLM’s granting permission to ride the same on non motorized trails in spite of their published position.

BLM:

Non-motorized trails

Contact your local BLM office for more information.

“E-bikes are allowed on trails limited to bicycles and non-motorized travel ONLY IF a BLM Manager has issued a written decision authorizing e-bike use in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.”

The above is right from official BLM web site. At present that signed document does not exist yet BLM is not ticketing ebike riders. Position power, land manager not following what they say they are supposed to do. We are a nation of laws unless you have power to avoid following what you determine is inconvenient. OK ebikers, go for it because BLM has told you it is OK ( is that a wink wink?).

The second is energy: Ebikes themselves. 100 reasons why a rider can rationalize why they choose to embrace effort reduction in an activity that is powered by human heart. I grew up with a push reel lawn mower. When the self propelled walk behind rotary mower was introduced it made mowing that same piece of yard much faster and required less effort. I get that as I did not view mowing as exercise, I just wanted more free time. Why a rider wants a motor assist to lessen physical effort during a ride is what I do not understand.

Position power and energy.

Motorized vs heart propelled incompatibility. OK, ebikes do require heart propulsion. A recent article I read discovered that motorized riders exert approx. 10 beats per minute fewer beats and of course can cover the same amount of trail in shorter amount of time. My heart can not keep up with a rider being assisted. Imagine suffering climbing a long steep hill and the electric rider is either waiting for you at the top of the climb or sitting on your wheel chatting about how nice a day it is and I am not breathing hard or sweating. Their increased speed and decreased effort is incompatible with human effort.

But it isn’t up to me to understand.

Still here in Hurkin. This last week nature’s sprinklers were turned on producing mud and puddles. Little sunshine but no below freezing at night keeps the ground soft. Forecast this week is for some sun and highs in 50s which will favor drying trails. Immediate future is promising for heart propelled pedaling. That is why I am still here: Hope springs eternal from the human breast. I want to ride the Hurricane Cliffs IMBA epic loop.

Last Monday I got after treatment for my right shoulder, next step was Physical therapy. I scored a DR appointment for Thurs for referral for a scored PT appointment on last Fri. The PT listened to my body then created a therapy plan with exercises and a stretch. 3 days into the plan my shoulder is considerably happier. I am working the supporting muscles.

Friday I received a shingles vaccine injection in my left upper arm. I was told I might experience some muscle pain. Today, 3 days later, I still have tenderness, it’s like an unhappy muscle like from overuse or injury. I sleep on that side. Next poke I will have in the right shoulder which is too painful to sleep on. The medical professional told me that as the body ages it generates lower body temperature which adversely affects the body’s ability to fight off infections. The chicken pox virus remains suppressed in the body because of normal body temp.

Been staying at the overlook above town on private property that lacks private property signs. So much energy consumed for lights.

Zags are playing UW which just started on XM. So long.
