Booted again

Today the parking lot authority person decreed because of the complaints that he had received about mtn bikers taking up parking spaces that you are only allowed to park in the parking lot if you are in a business, no trailhead parking which is what the posted signs say. I and another guy were singled out as we kind of live in our rigs during the day and also ride from the lot. I can park in the lot I suppose as long as my bike is on the rack and not be living inside my van and also be in a business. Street parking somewhere. This affects way more people than just me so it’s only kinda personal. I had 3 county sheriffs rigs and 6 cops attending to the parking lot authority parked behind me. They ran my driver’s license and plates. Nothing in AZ. I have been warned by the man and the next time I trailhead park I will be arrested.

Just beautiful shorts and short sleeve top riding. Sunburns coming on.

Tuesday afternoon
Tuesday afternoon, number on right of the “P” is outside

Tuesday I rode a Hogs loop 16.9 miles climbing 1708′. I still know how to walk what I perceive my lack of skill will not match the challenge of the move. Same things. I do ride what I can better w/ more confidence.

Yesterday was another PT session. Eric sees increasing strength.

Sandy and I pooled our desires for a ride on Upper Dry Creek. I slid her bike inside the van. We rode Chuck wagon, Mescal, Aeirie, Cockscomb, Dawa, AZ Cypress, Snake, Girdner, then Chuckwagon back to the van for a 12.3 mile ride climbing 1166′.

Her knees are shot. Biking offers her relief from the pain. She is a very strong climber and outclimbed me. However, my downhill tech skills are better than hers so we switch leads. We were going to ride today but she bailed because her knees took a beating from yesterday. She is paying for her prowess.

Today I pedaled up Shades then down the back side to Connect to Templeton. This was the first time to pedal up this piece as it is a more painful hump than riding Bell Rock etc. There are several features that I can ride down but can’t master on the uphill. It’s just a grunt but it was a good kind. Bare skin ride, I’m working on my biker tan. Some day i will ride Hiline.

Still no word on the arrival of my RFX. I’m in a bit of a tire replacement  pickle as I have worn the sidewalls of my rear tire down to exposed fabric. On Sunday  the  lost air during the ride. The Orange sealant isn’t plugging all the leaks. I need a tire. The RFX is a larger 27 1/2 wheel size. Won’t buy a new tire for just a short amount of riding till the new bike comes in. My riding has really worn the Conti Trail King down.

Tomorrow is laundry day and a ride on new trails.

  1. That’s a total bummer man. I say go in business. Sell beads, offer stargazing advice or hang out a shingle to do taxes or some shit. “I do your taxes while you ride” That way you can be in business and ride.

Six police officers is total overkill for simple parking issues. I wonder who “complained”.

  2. Craig, check with one of your buddies at the bike shop. They probably replace tires pretty frequently and should have some take off tires less worn than yours that you could have for free. You may have to run a tube for a month, but that’s better than buying a new tire.
On another note, I’m building a set of wheels. That should be interesting…., never done it before.

  3. I have a ton of 26″ tires. I’ll bring some down this weekend. Riding a Triple H on Sat. Or, hit up Dave over at Fat Tire. He’s got a bunch of Conti TKs in a pile with some mileage left.

It’s not clear from your post but they hassled you in the parking lot near the Bean? Not at a TH, correct.

  4. Thanks yall for tire solutions. I have a conti in my Jobox to ride in case the rear shits the bed. Effort is required to change a tire, something that I am somewhat adverse to doing. My hope is my RFX is under me before this tire fails and may that not be on a ride.
Joe, I was parked where you talked to me recently. My bike was on my van but I was living inside and not patronizing plaza merchants. Unrestricted except no overnight parking is down behind the outlet mall.
Les, say Hi to Mel.I would have enjoyed their visit. I am easily found.
Abe, maybe Tucson is an interesting choice. Should visit b4 it gets too toasty which will be when?

  5. I’ve been hassled by shop owners for parking in that lot before. That’s why I usually park somewhere else when I ride, unless I’m riding with Scotty from the Bean. Your too big a target. Maybe it’s the stickers?

  6. Joe and all mtn bikers who want to use the red rock plaza parking lot for trailhead parking: enough was enough for the parking lot official to decree: vehicles are only allowed to park in the lot while you are in one of the businesses in the plaza. Certainly if you have an empty bike rack you have the potential to be perhaps towed if the man can remember that you had been given a prior warning. My van was not the tipping point.

  7. Girls park there too. I guess they don’t get booted. But your there all the time. Of course you were the tipping point and now you’ve ruined it for everybody else. LOL.

  8. Long string of 80+ degree weather which will continue for at least another week. 90s can be common in April less so in March but we’ve already hit it once. Hasn’t rained in nearly a month. Hopefully 100s are months away but it does happen in April some years. If it gets hot the Catalinas, Huachucas, Grahams and Chiricahua Mountains await.

  9. Exactly why I don’t live in Sedona. Too many panties in a wad, all day, all night. Its only February and the heat will only rise. 6 cops? Fak!

  10. I brought a 26″ tire by yesterday after a Triple H but didn’t see you. Scotty was not very talkative so didn’t linger long. I’ll bring one down later in the week if you still need one.

Ran into ACE on Ridge re-doing the gargoyle pinch rock/ramp dealio that Justin did with the FS two years ago.
