This drink required about a 1/2 mile walk from the time share where I stayed. Mai Tai foo foo. Didn’t make one in the surf as signs prohibited alcohol from the beach, prolly as a prophylactic measure to protect nit wits from being pounded by the surf. There is local rum and moonshine distilled on the islands.

This is a view from the room deck:

IMAG0115Sunrise and sunset were visible from the room. Temperate temps and gentle sea breeze, the temp varied little from hi to low. Slept in air conditioned huge bed room which could fit my van. Very posh living.

George rented a car that he drove for his sight seeing. I rode w/ him 2 days. Kauai has a major road that runs about 3/4 of the island perimeter and some spider web roads that head inland b4 the steep mountains ( volcanoes) choke off further ingress.

I rode my one ride in the state:

IMAG0128_BURST002_COVERA guy @ Kauai Cycles worked for a summer as an intern @ Bike and knows Chris Lesser who wrote the article about me in the June 2010 issue.

I did make Hanalei. Out on the pier I asked an artist painting where Puff was. He told me that he is there, just visualized the geographical features and he appears.

Thurs morn I walked to a beach and splashed in the surf among several sea turtles. I dove under the breakers and tried several for body surfing. I emerged unhurt.

My flight left @ 10:30PM. Again another series of buses to Lihue airport. I walked down to the water front seeking the Bamboo restaurant where the locals go according to a source. I found it, not the taste I was hoping unless sloppiness and sloth were island traits. Huge cruise ship docked near by. Lots of tourists.

I flew Boeing 757 & 67s and a small A319. At LA airport the shuttle bus passed 5 huge A380s @ terminal. On the plane later the pilot announced that one was taking off from my side of the plane. Double decker.

After a shuttle ride back to the motel I got back into my van that had all its windows intact: no break in. I called Paul McClurg who is from our home village of Lucas, Ohio, some 900 people. We selected Brown’s Ranch for a ride. Great non technical trail system that he knows well. Sonoran desert dry:

I am back in Sedona after a 5 day vaca in the moisture of Hawaii. I made it back to Sedona in time to share some Hawaiian moonshine to the left over Fri shop riders. Moonshine is distilled from the Ti plant tubers that are roasted freeing up the fermentable sugar. Sips well.

Sat I drove up to west Sedona to do my wash and go for a ride. George was wearing his palm leaf hat he bought from a roadside vendor.

I rode Last Frontier. The climbs killed me I figure because I did not take my COPD medicine. I hoped that I didn’t need the Advair. I might have been wrong. Today’s ride will tell the tail after 2 days of inhaling the med.

Such a contrast from Sedona to Hawaii and back. Sedona is all about redish exposed rounded surfaces rock and little green. Hawaii is all about green and sharpness from volcanoes. Dry and wet.

The 5 days was a vacation from my life on the road. I prefer my lifestyle to the vacation.

Last night I watched the Zags @ PJs. The guy bartender almost immediately channel surfed to find the game because he said he saw my van in the parking lot and figured that was why I was there. The Zags squeaked a victory to move to the quarter finals of the WCC tournament played locally in Las Vegas.

Mon I have a TMG exam.
