Sleeps with the beef

Dean, who showed me how to know where  your water sources in the Sedona desert, has a quote in Bike something about the next revolution will be over land because a cow has more rights than a human. Out here on Beaverhead Flats cows rule. Four legged ecological destruction machines.

Today I complied again w/ PT instructions by riding an hour on the button no less on pavement, and every other day. I rode Jacks Canyon dead end roads. I huffed and puffed up the short hills. So far to go to come back.

To me the scenery is just so spectacular, I never tire of what I see.

The PUSH side of my fork is leaking requiring it to be sent to them for repair. The new Pike by Rockshox has had my attention for awhile. I am going to but one. The new fork is a 15mm maxle which requires a hub reducer and a new head set to accept the tapered steer  tube. This fucking computer just ate lines of text. It knows I hate it and am so close to smashing the shit out of it. New Chris King components.

Last night I slept out @ crowded Deer Pass, no FS scrutiny. Better cell service out there than Beaverhead. I drove into town to do my wash then head down to Bike & Bean. Today is a hike day that I did out of BnB, Made in the Shade. Amazing how chunky it is as experienced walking. And we ride it. I have such a long way to come back from.

A shower in my private shower.

The Zags played @ 9 at Portland. I watched the game @ PJs: they got skunked. I slept in the shop parking lot because the lateness.

I am still running the heater on high at night as the temp does drop just below freezing. During the sun warmed days it makes the low 60s. I bought propane this AM, I was about .2 of a gallon above empty.

I defrosted the fridge then used 110 volts shore power from the bean to drop the temp quickly.

Tomorrow is a hiking day. Seahawks play @ 2:30. Breakfast w/ Danny tomorrow.

Working the stretching the PT gave me and I am experiencing more range of motion. A ski pole plant would just kill me.

You are only as famous as your audience will give you.

Shortened leash

Yesterday I visited a PT here in Sedona for continued rehabbing my repaired right shoulder. She observed that my shoulder has shrunk and there is little range of motion. She asked about my activity, when I told her I am riding 5 days a week on chunky double track she looked aghast. She asked if I retore the repair. No I said. She apparently doesn’t want me to ride where shock is transferred to my shoulder and not as often. I accepted a modified riding program of every other day for an hour on smooth road surface. First step is to gain range of motion using the 3 exercises she gave me. And ice afterwards. I showed her: after leaving her office I rode pavement out to Aeries further TH and back for 65 mins. Gained 1100′. did the exercises afterwards and iced. Then went to drink beer w/ members of Sedona Mtn Bike Club.

Tues. I let Floyd cut my hair and beard as he is the best beard cutter I have had. Niether of my head hairs grow long, forget the ZZ Top look.

I bought a new phone also on Tues, a HTC w/ 4G and a faster processor. It is faster w/ a few new methods that require unlearning from the previous phone to the new one. I suppose I am happier as I obtain info faster which reduces waiting frustration.

On Monday I pushed the Beaverhead roads a bit further. I stopped at the metal tanks just before a 600′ drop in a mile. Chunky double track.

Yesterday was my eye exam as a repeat customer. All the test results came back good health and no new prescription. 20/20 distance uncorrected. The dilation affect played blindness in sedona bright sky.

Living on the road presents issues for receiving medical treatment. I have and eye DR, a dentist,  an MD, 2 ortho surgeons,  a chiro, & several PTs here in Sedona area. I also have the same coverage back in Spokane. It’s the places in between that present choice and visit issues. I do have medical records scattered throughout the US. Have good insurance like BC/BS which seems to be universal coverage. This year I move to Medicare when I turn 65.

So today I did my weekly wash. I hang my no dryer clothes on a line running across the back of the inside of my van. W/ the low humidity and warm temps they will all be dry in 2 days. Today is a no ride day, I will drive back down to VOC and maybe hike then take a shower then hang @ Bike and Bean till closing. Gonzaga plays tonight that I will view @ PJ’s if they receive it then drive out to Beaverhead for the night.

More Beaverhead

I slept in reluctant to leave the cold covers for even more chill. My doubled over down blanket isn’t cutting it so well. I made scratch pancakes then cleaned up my mess. Only person camped @ spot.

My personal bike shop shower needs a shower mat and something to hang my clothes on. I drove down to Cottonwood Walmart. I bought a rug and a drying rack.

From Cottonwood I drove to Beaverhead Flats road for more of the road system. I rode this time all the way to the end of the road which terminates @ the above pic. No more riding. I turned around. Part way back I turned west on another jeep road and followed it a short distance. I decided to save it for future exploration. Great rocky coast back down.

I drove back to BnB for hanging and a shower. I asked Ian about rides out this way. He shared his ride that dropped all the way to Verde Valley road, down Turkey Creek. He rode the same roads but kept on going down the road I turned back on. Got it. He sent me a .gpx track that I attempted to load into my Edge. No success. I am researching TOPOFUSION for mapping and data manipulation. I reloaded the AZ nat geo topo map and am downloading my rides. Socialization and a shower. I stopped for dinner groceries on the way out of town to Beaverhead Flats. Tonight I drove further back from where I camped the other night to a flat spot further off the road.

Tomorrow I will retrace Ian’s ride.

Today I rode back downhill more aggressively and confidently. My shoulder and arm are supporting the demand placed on them. I am riding stuff that I am comfortable on. The dirt roads are rough, irregular double track, loose rock. I am paying single focus on my riding. My understanding is that I am to use my shoulder as it will allow, I just am not allowed to fall. I will gain more info during my Wed PT session.

Hi Rockman and Tomas.
