crushed, depressed, just prone to violence

The computer tech went down the wrong snake hole and lost 5+ years of GPS mapping my rides….. and lost my email account. No email history, no contacts. I am no longer able to obtain email contacts. Should you want to contact me, you need to email me @ craig@runutsadventures.comĀ  or leave a comment on the blog. I have 3/4 of a mind to sue them. The programs filed the data that they generated in their generated locations, not where he thought files would be, he didn’t back up my C drive. I behaved myself keeping my emotions in check as he searched and corrected some other issues. I did ask for my $ back that was given. I working on finding peace and letting go. This fucking computer keeps sending the cursor all over this missive. I have red lined past pissed off.

I really hurt my shoulder last night petting my neighbors’ energetic labs. Tomorrow afternoon I learn the damage and repair and recuperation.

I am too mad to continue.

  1. Craig, I wish to say sorry and I understand and feel what you are going through. I too had a C drive wiped out and lost many vacation photos along with important documents. The anger and saddness was overwhelming at first but then I soon realized that the experiences were captured in my mind and memory, and that while not being able to go back to them on a physical screen, at the end of the day, I still had the experiences and memories. I now use an external hard drive to backup all my things, I guess it’s one of those things we just have to learn from. I know this hits a little harder for you as this is your life and has been for 5 years, but while the data maybe gone, most all your experiences are documented right here still. Keep your head up and get well soon!

  2. Dustin is right, Your journey has been well documented here in the blog. You can buy a 1 TB external hard drive for about $50. Many computers are stolen but they all crap out at some point. Back up regularly, keep the external hard drive separate from the lap top. Dwell on the good not the bad.

  3. What a raw deal. Sorry to hear that such an accumulation of data was lost due to incompetence by others. At least you got to experience it first hand, and those memories are worth all the more now.

    Serenity now.

  4. Craig, Roy is right. You have to B/U your stuff. W/ an external drive or to an on-line / cloud.

Unless (and to a degree even if) the drive has been formatted, the data is still there. If a drive is physically dieing, the data can be recovered (though it is expensive $). If the drive has been formatted, here to often the data can be recovered (formatting / quick format) does not really delete the data. Data recovery places can often times get your data – again its $$$ though.

    Very sorry to hear…

  5. Another free way to backup your trail data is via sites like Strava or MapMyRide. These are very utilitarian sites if you ignore the competitive BS.

Chin up and round side down!
