Snow and wet

The NOAA forecast won out w/ the more correct forecast. The ground was warm enough to melt the falling snow which was less than the 4″ another site called for. None the less snow fell melting on contact w/ the warm ground. The trails received a nice dampening. At issue is the below freezing night time to lock in the h2o that creates dreaded freeze thaw mud. I hung Wed and Thurs staying out of occasional snow showers. I have rested 2 days after 8 straight days of riding.

Today I hung 6 days of washing machine wet riding kits on the drying line in my van. Cold damp weather lengthens the drying time. I don’t machine dry any of my wool or synthetics as the heat destroys the stretchy material.

Long afternoon @ Fat Tire during which Dave serviced my Chris King rear hub and bottom bracket. Dave does a thorough job. He flushed out the bearings sluicing out grit. Once back together I spun the crank arm backwards. WOW! What resistance free spinning. Grit gets by the bearing seals.

I started the day @ BnB where other riders were mingling. Billy of the Power House in Hailey called me out.

Back out @ Deer Pass.

Yesterday I paid for a hair cut.

Retirement pays my wages as a professional time consumer.

Seven days in a row

Tomorrow makes 8… then snow again on Wed, heavy, perhaps 5″. Harvest time:  get the riding in b4 getting weathered off.

Today I drove up to red Rock precision for a parking brake cable replacement that is to make my parking brake engage while the front seat is swiveled around. Steve is to meet me @ 10:30 and drive us out for a Dry Creek ride. We rode system trails. We encountered hikers mostly on Mescal. 13 miles in 2 hrs.

BCT tired

Today i rode 29.20 miles of the Black Canyon trail (BCT). Steve drove us in his Sprinter down to Rock Springs where we paid $20 shuttle fee He rode from Bumble bee down and I went for the 30 mile special. I started from Antelope Springs and headed S to the van and beer @ Black Canyon TH. the first 5 miles were new to me; I dropped 1000′. Treasure Mine is where our out and back from Bumble bee turns around. From there down I have ridden. Again, I rode over the section that I helped build. 3 hrs 50 mins climbing 2545′. i rode in the mid chain ring the entire ride and mostly in 2nd largest cluster. I faced head wind. Beautiful day. i put on sunscreen. Steve was lazing in a chair at the van when i arrived. A satisfying beer then over to the cafe for pie. Steve drove back to VOC. I caught a shower then Pad Thai for dinner. Sleep is in the parking lot.

Crazy. I encountered a small group of riders who were bike camping. We were searching for a less wet crossing of the Agua Fria. A guy called me jp nuts. i asked for a memory refresher. We met @ oakridge in 2011 during Cream puff activity.

Sat Steve and I rode the Hiline loop. Sat on 3 day weekend nice day on very popular day hike trail was not so smart. We finished in time to miss a few minutes of the Zags game that I received on my computer. Zags won and Duke lost.

My new DR examined me. I have an orthor referral for my right shoulder.

I’m becoming too tired to continue. Ah, laying flat on my back.
