Guacamole

Yesterday I drove down to ST George to ride Barrel Roll etc out Santa Clara way. I shopped @ Harmon’s store in town. As I walked around I felt wooozy and weak. Something is wrong, my cough still hangs around. I decided to go to an Insta Care out @ Santa Clara. Walked in, place had a 2 hr wait. I’ll drive back to Hurricane to an Insta Care there. In Santa Clara I bought tree ripened oranges from the guy who drives a horse trailer to CA and fills up several 4X4 boxes and sells them out of the trailer. Great oranges.

I drove by the Red Rock nature preserve N of ST George. Endangered desert tortoises require special fencing to keep them from becoming road kill:

Back in Hurricane. The wait was 1 patient. DR examined me, said i have a virus that my body will just have to fight off. The 2 antibiotics should have killed bacteria, what remains is a virus. Lungs are clear, no concern of anything else. No limitations.

Thurs night I worked w/ Quentin and a GPS attempting to down load gps data from my computer. We couldn’t make the hardware talk. I accepted the challenge to make the data transfer work. After the DR exam I hung in the parking lot. I called Garmin tech support reaching a talking person pretty fast. Old guy spent perhaps 30 mins trying to make the transfer. No such happening. Perhaps it is my older model.

I googled healthy chicken recipes. I found a chicken and rice recipe as I had most of the ingredients. I didn’t buy the full list which prevents supply growth. Palatable.

I spent the night in town. Freeze thaw mud which most likely softens up the upper JEM TH camp spot so i stay in town. Hurricane sits in a depression. Cold weather, some people heat w/ firewood. The smoke hangs over the town. I didn’t like breathing the smoke. 21 degrees.

Today Quentin is leading an Over the Edge shop ride to Guacamole. Several riders were tourons. Doug is from Twin Falls, we talked about the Indian Springs trails and the builders.  I rode w/ Quentin and DJ. The dirt was frozen on the way in. We parked below the climb up to the mesa to avoid sliding down the thawed mud. Our ride started w a half mile undulating steep climb up to the mesa. The ride is a mesa ride linking out croppings of slick rock, step ups, roll up, roll downs, and hucks. I am still stymied by the abrupt step ups. Quentin is a stellar rider.

Sunshine warmed the air and the ground creating freeze thaw mud. Challenging and slightly rewarding ride.

Back in town my new Pisgah Works jersey awaited me. I wore the first one out. The new one has my name patch sewed on. Thanks Bruce. Pisgahworks.com sells Pisgah branded items. Great jersey.

I drove into Washington City for a shower @ Community center. The drove out to desert Warner Valley. Tomorrow I will give Barrel Roll another go.

Environmental conditions are favorable. Location is Church Rocks just out of town. Slick rock and sand. Lots of wet into the dirt. Will there be freeze thaw mud? Gonna find out.

First was doing my wash. Only 1 set of riding gear from last Thurs ride on Hurricane rim which is unrideable because of wet clay in the dirt.

Parked in business park instead of driving right to the TH, after all, I am seeking calories burned. Road going to TH is dirt, had numerous frozen puddles right beside thawing mud. Not looking really good. I rode to Prospector that will lead me to a circle of Church rocks. I rode onto ice over puddles breaking thru, thru patches of freeze thaw mud, sand pits, and slick rock. Once I accepted the fact that freeze thaw mud would be present I hastened my ride in hopes of getting off trail b4 more thawing occurred. There are 2 monstrous sand sections that I rode thru because the sand was binding. I pedaled up all the slick rock and down the back side. On way back it appeared that what was going to thaw had already happened. Still, I wanted out. Ride parallels I-15 with rushing S bound traffic.

Drove down to Washington City community center for a $1.00 shower. Then back to Hurricane. DJ invited me to dinner. I made my Waldorf salad. I told Quentin about loading GPS data into his web site and to GPSs. We worked over the units and directions but failed to view the data that the computer said was sent to the connected Etrex gps. I loaded the data to the device but the GPS would not show were it loaded the data to. Help line tomorrow.

Drove around the block to my camp spot.

Cold this AM. Heater on high w/ double blanket and even my cap. Chilly. Heater won’t run on low as it won’t burn all the propane fuel which sets off my alarm. Not that I needed low last night.

Weather will not dry out the trails. I have perhaps 2 shipments on the way to Hurricane that I need to stay for which now might be what holds me here. Glad that I rode the Hurricane Rim on my first day here.

Perhaps tomorrow a drive to ST George for Zen trail.

Hey! Shout out to you readers. Data shows daily 800 plus people hit on my site. May you get what you were seeking.

I need about 35 more rides to reach 1000 times on a bike. the thousandth ride will be down in Sedona sometime in Feb

Desert rain now snow

Yesterday’s forecast was for mostly cloudy skies, just right for riding Barrel Roll. Except rain fell during bfast and off and on throughout day eliminating riding.

I took a shower @ Golds which really aren’t friendly places. I checked on the Community center in Washington where I have showered in the past to learn of their shower charge, they all agreed that it is now $1.00.  I’ll pay the dollar in the future.

I drove back to Hurricane. I enjoyed the heated library while reading newspapers and mags. I visited w/ Quentin @ OTE. Dinner was bought @ Durango something and dessert next door @ frozen yogurt place. I spent the night behind the shop.

rain fell during last night and into today. Rain and chill.

I remembered reading about care of your RV water system. I read it today and made changes. I tossed the in line filter and added bleach to the tank. Lots of times I added filtered h2o. The filtration removed the chlorine that kills the bacteria. The filter was a breeding media for nasty organisms. I don’t drink the water but I rinse my toothbrush and do dishes. I wonder if my loose stool came from the bacteria in the tank. I just finished an antibiotic treatment that perhaps killed the loose stool. W/ new water treatment I believe I will stay hard.

Another afternoon spent hanging @ OTE.

Sleep was behind the shop. Around 8:30PM the noise of rain on the roof changed to whispers. Snow was falling. Was per the forecast.

Forecast calls for clearing and slightly warming. Church Rocks outside of Hurricane offers a short ride but weathers the rain quite well. If the snow melts that’s where I will ride.

My cough is almost completely gone.
