Road riding in ST George

Dirtbag camped in motel parking lot after watching Zags played well to beat Wisconsin.

AM appointment w/ urologist. Asked a bunch of questions and received knowledgeable answers. The body is a complicated piece of machinery. The laceration to my kidney sent out feedback, one of them being adjusting blood pressure. The bp med I am on is a beta blocker. Per today’s visit i should not be on it but writing a script for correct med is not in purview of urologist.  I have an appointment w/ a primary care dr this Wed that is approved by urologist. Beta blocker is affecting my heart rate. Dizziness could have been caused by low bp or a glycemic crash & not from kidney. Possible scenario is that the 10/8 fall in Spokane initially injured the kidney because I fell on my chest. The 10/31 fall sent the blood bleeding thru the weakened section of the kidney. The resulting hematoma is displacing space in my abdomen which is the source of my pain. The pain will diminish when the hematoma is absorbed in time. I am happier about my understanding of my injury & healing.

I am released to exercise just into aerobic level and only smooth surfaces to eliminate jarring, and I must get off my bike or whatever under controlled landings. The concern is the kidney is healing and is still susceptible to bleeding should I crash hard.

I’m Happy that I can get back exercising albeit on my road bike riding w/ little exertion. I can ride my Spot should I find smooth trails.  Dec 13 I can start riding rougher trails at the end of 6 weeks of healing. I will pee blood &/or experience localized pain if I overexert. Increased stress in body can break open the wound causing bleeding. I am using my heart rate monitor to keep  my heart rate down.

Today i rode for just over an hour on ST George paved trails which are nice, much of it along the Virgin River. Unfortunately, like the Spokane River, it is the recipient of the sewage affluent which has an undesirable “nose”.  Tomorrow I will ride a bit longer & further.

I have lost several pounds which was muscle mass.

Tonight Zags play Cincinnati for the Maui championship. Back @ Players sport bar where the beer lacks diversity and food must be purchased. Spoke w/ manager last night and learned that he is from MT and much of his family is in the Inland NW.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all.

Mark, i will send along a picture soon before my beard gets scraggly. And, Randy, let your hair grow what there is of it.

Body mending in Utah

Someday both my body will heal and I will understand as will the medical community understand what has been going on in my body.

I spent quality time w/ a doctor @ Instacare in Hurricane. She thought my wooziness is caused by the bloop pressure lowering med and suggested reducing it 50% and eventually weaning myself as I do not have a high BP history. Blood and urine were examined and I am spot on the specs. The crit level indicates I am topped off and the urine values indicate I am hydrated. My bp was back to historically low levels. No exercise today.

Zags won their game. I Watched it on a web site. They play tonight in the final that i will watch in a sports bar in ST George.

Today I made an appointment as a new patient in a family medicine clinic for next week.

I drove down to ST George stopping @ Washington rec center for a shower. The receptionist learned that a shower should cost the cheapest activity which is $3.00.

Supercuts trimmed the ends and severely shortened my beard. I do look very “clean”.

Dirtbag camping in ST George tonight after the GU game.

Went for a 50 min street walk trying to replicate the intense woozieness to no avail fortunately. I stopped @ the Instacare office where I had my bp taken before the walk and again afterwards. Numbers are still high. Several people there remember me including the nurse who “threw” me out last week telling me that my issues required hospital devices. She is friendly, no harm, no foul.

Still here

Been hanging @ OTE carrying on w/ Quentin & wife, DJ & sometimes Slower than Snot. I get to pet their dog, Eddy. Nice weather: all sunshine & sometimes really warm.

Sat I drove into ST George, about 20 miles from JEM TH, to buy a book & get a shower. ST George is the normal along an interstate built up town w/ malls & chain establishments. I checked out Gold’s gym for a shower but they wanted $10. An employee said that there are rec centers, one just back towards Hurricane in Washington. Cool. Checked it out: New center, cost: free. And it is first exit off I-15 from Hurricane.

Bought David Gutterson’s The Other and another Wendell Berry book. I chose The Other for a different writer and perspective. This book is more of a literary read and is not the page turner that Grisham’s 2 books were. I could watch a video instead of reading kind of book. I selected an attractive and creatively dressed young woman for sales help. She had a wonderful colorful tattoo on her upper chest.

After my shop visit I drove out to my spot @ the and sat in sunshine reading. I decided to go for a walk just after 5:0 in  afternoon sun on the JEM trail. I walked a bit further that I had in the past. I started getting woozie which marked my turn around. I almost crawled back because of light headedness. I don’t know what is going on w/ this recovery nor how much or what activity I can do. I walked 39 mins out & it took me 79 to get back in the dark & cold. I had to get back to the van, nobody was there to help me. The lingering sundown faded and a quarter moon shone. the trail is a ribbon in the dark desert. I rested 3 times but couldn’t stay long to “recover” because of dark & cold. Back @ van I settled down and then I started feeling “peculiar”. I was concerned about bleeding but my pee was normal yellow. I freaked on body feelings & drove back to ST George & camped on undeveloped site on hospital grounds. As I pulled in a helicopter was bringing a less fortunate person in. While I was still up and researching kidney laceration a hospital security guard checked me out. I told him I wanted to be near just in case. He was cool w/ that.

Treatment for kidney laceration is what I am getting; however, I have been unable to learn of how to recover or what to expect if over activity occurs. I must wait until my Wed appointment w/ urologist.

Thurs. I learned from the CT scan that I was healing and could increase activity but increase not qualified. Thinking my issue is not jarring my body i went for a road ride on the Spot from Hurricane. I got woozy @ turn around & rode back. After sitting awhile the wozziness went away. I thought I could hike and be OK.

Today I drove back from ST George to Hurricane, did my wash that is now all street clothes, visited bike shop, & drove back to camping spot. While in store I spoke w/ 2 guys, one from Moscow & the other from Spokane; they drove 15 hours for a wekend of riding. Enjoyed sharing history & local ride info w/ them.

The sunsets are splendid from my camping spot. Clear unobstructed view to western horizon. Mollie’s Nipple is backlit by color. And the sunset lasts awhile, too long to sit & stare at. Elevation: 4200′.

Zags play in the Maui tournament tomorrow. Zysk sent me a web site to watch game. Backup is sports bar in Hurricane. In Utah you have to order food w/ drinks. I will order from right side of menu & drink mid America beer choice.
