Sunday was a glorious day for riding: sunshine, no clouds, little wind, and almost short sleeves for 65 degrees, didn’t even wear knee protection. However, yesterday weather blew in a cold system, slight amount of snow predicted. No snow but significant drop in temps and increased wind velocity. Van rocked van warmth conducted to the outdoors. This AM it was 21 outside and only 41 inside. My summer down blanket was just not enough but I would be too cold to leave that warmth to pull down my sleeping bag. Today I didn’t emerge till 8:30, a new record. I don’t need to ride every day, today stretched into 2 days of rest in a row. Forecast for like Thurs is back in upper 50s.
Sunday was a local group ride to ride the newly opened Ground Control that I worked on. At Thurs work day I helped open the N end of the trail, by the end of the day the other end was completed and the trail was officially opened. We rode from Aerie TH on Cockscomb to start of trail which is the direction you want to ride it as the drop off Cockscomb needed friction on the slick rock of my 510 shoe rubber. 9 riders, I had ridden with all but 1 over my years here. Enjoyable to be among my history.
This is what Sedona riding is all about.
Our ride continued some on social trails that I learned about: Shit Hole wash ride I was the slowest rider which I attribute to my age and not my fitness. A very enjoyable time spent riding and visiting. Several of us adjourned to Whole Foods for a beer and munchies.
Super Bowl Sunday. I jay walked across 4 lanes of 89A to Old Sedona to watch the first half and another beer then returned to Whole Foods for 2nd half and results of foraging the salad bar. Spent night at town sleep spot.
Sunny chilly today. Absolute Bikes serviced my fork which accumulated way more hours of riding per recommended service interval. PUSH special fork seals were installed which are to be very slippery to reduce seal stiction.
Monday I visited with Jimmy, the former owner of Bike and Bean. Then out to Beaverhead where I scored my old favorite spot tucked in the junipers.
Sat the Zags played at 2 PM broadcast only on XM which I wanted to listen to. I started out on my ride just after 10 AM expecting to complete my planned ride to make game time. My ride became social as I met 5 other riders whom we share history to visit with. I did session several spots getting a bit further on the Llama problem.
Friday Doug, Brian, and I rode around Hogs.
I have been working on creating a ride on Western gateway trails as there are like 30 plus miles of trail. Route possibilities are up to your imagination, I am working on identifying trail segments that will be ridden but the rider needs to figure out how to ride each one during a ride.
Still waiting for service garage to figure out servicing my coolant system.
