States so far this year. Today I drove out past Kimberly, ID to Indian Springs BLM area. Drove up past the TH to a flat high spot. There is a lot of flat land north of here stopped by mountains to the north. Cows and beer drinking gun shooting damage. Sunset over a flat plane of horizon.
I rode 3 different places outside Heber City, UT and Park City. The last was this morning outside Park City in the Round Valley. MTBProject for navigation following a user’s defined loop. Machine purpose built trail.Banked corners, wiggles and waggles and grade dips. Well designed as there are breaks between the climbs and likewise on the downs. Hard packed smooth. Desert environment. Everything was rideable including the steeps. Been there, rode that. Popular riding area.
Next was the 4 hour interstate highway drive, winds blew in Idaho. I will describe driving my van to an empty Kleenex box on 4 casters. I used up good chunks of my lane.
Sunday I drove down for snow line and the FS boundary to Wasatch SP and maybe a paid camp spot near town. Jordanelle was filled and nobody answered at Wasatch campground office. Crazy GPS navigation differed from the brown and white diresction signs. Made a big ride plan. Paid senior day use fee of $4.00 then drop into the iron maiden. Just miles of trails aroiund Park City. I put my smart phone on the handlebar mount with MTBP guiding my route. I rode Phosphate counterclockwise as suggested. Trail traversed steep mountainside finding patches of leafed out maples. The dominant short oak trees have not leafed out.
The climb was a hoot as a traverse would lead into climbing turns between short straight sections. Just when the effort suffered there would be a short traverse. The downhill was crazy tight turns right after another in places. Machine Built. I drove back to town, Heber City, for a shower at anytime. campground check in is at 3. Sunday night should have openings. Yes, plenty. Site with h2o and electric. Hot day that taxed the propane cooling. I stretched out my cord, I was about 6″ too far away. I finally decided that a cooler fridge was worth driving 2 feet. Slept there last night then left this early morning for the first ride above.
Sundown today was 9:22 there abouts. Darkness comes way late. I went for a walk tonight after dinner picking up a piece of trail: old school hand built when needed, otherwise I suspect it was just ridden in in most places. I put off writing this till almost dark. It is now 10:00PM and my eyelids are spending more time closing than full on open. More later
