Rousted but not booted

Last night I made the airport my sleep spot parking in same area near the sign that reads: 24 hours maximum. I previously cruised all the parking lots and saw no signage prohibiting camping. There was paid extended parking so a person could stay for 24 hours where I was for free, or pay a daily fee in another location. I chose the offered free. I was sound asleep when a pounding on the side of the van, almost where my head was. Raining. A man’s voice identifies himself as airport staff and that I have to move because I can’t stay here. I crawl out of bed and roll the driver’s window down. I told him I was in compliance w/ the sign and nowhere is sleeping prohibited. He said, Oh. then apologized. I crawled back into bed and fell back to sleep. WTF?

After bfast I drove back into Anytime Fitness to check out if there was a bike machine to ride. There was, just like in Spokane. I changed in to inside bike riding attire then pedaled for 62 mins, burned 725 cals, a bit more than on the dirt. A shower then I was on my way.

I sought knowledge about my cell phone @ Verizon dealer. Saleswoman told me my phone was outdated and I was eligible for an upgrade, one that will have way faster internet speed. I’ll wait till Sedona.

Forecast called for 100% rain and I believed it by riding inside early. I drove out of PA heading to the ocean. The ride I wanted to do @ Crescent lake was being rained on. I drove out of the rain B4 Forks. At Forks I decided to drive out to the coast in the Olympic National park and camp. I chose Mora XG which is 2 miles from the ocean. My seniors’ pass dropped camping fee to $6. That pass has saved me beaucoup bucks. I hiked the road down to Rialto Beach. Strong onshore breeze would have blown my Stetson away if I didn’t keep my hand on it. Pounding surf was the song. I made it back to camp as darkness was falling. All alone in soggy campground.

Tomorrow I will drive up the Hoh River and camp. The forecast is for mostly sunny tomorrow. Another cheap night. This is the trailhead for climbing MT Olympus. It’s like 12 miles to the Blue Glacier. I skied from the bergshrund down to exit off the Blue. Not a long ski and a horribly long hike but I skied it. I climbed it 2 other times. I spent quite a few nights and traveled many places in the Olympics when I lived outside Gig Harbor. A hike up the Hoh or a ride on the pavement back to the ocean.

Rain till Sunny Tuesday

fucking computer ate my recounting for the 2nd time.

Rain. Rode waterfront Sat out to Edis Hook then east to almost Sequim then back to PA. Rained today, watched Seahawks & drank a beer in each of local brew pubs. No crowds like @ Lower Tavern on Orcas. People here must have their own TVs.

I need to start  coaching for commitment w/ this computer. Perform or get the magnet. Maybe it is dieing if old age.

Will prolly head west tomorrow in the rain to enjoy the sunshine where ever it finds me on the peninsula, maybe the Hoh River.

Van odor is mildew from the heater exhaust and the wet outside. I need a bunch of dry Sedona days to dry things out.

2 nights @ airport free 24 maximum parking…. I leave for many hours during the day. Earlier  today weather conditions grounded all flights either way.

Snow falling from the cedars

Last night I camped @ Deception Pass SP after driving from Bellingham. Started a short hike down to the water @ 3:10, sunset is 4:18 and it is foggy. I took my head lamp. View was up to the under side of the highway bridge spanning the pass. I made it back w/o turning on the headlamp. $1.00 for 6 min hot water shower b4 bed. I read a bunch more pages of Calvin and Hobbs chuckling.

During the night the white noise became color white snow fall. Snow fell from the cedar branches onto my van. Plan today is to take the ferry over to Port Townsend and go from there. I waited to let the 8:00 commuters to clear then drove off on plowed and driven off wet snow. Signs of many spin outs. High wind exacerbated the slipperiness for me. Made the ferry 1st in line of no reservations. White caps just howling. I made the ferry. The ferry greatly smoothed out the waves. Found a laundromat in town. Rain and wind. No snow on the peninsula.

I drove all the way to Port Angeles (PA). I googled brew pubs in PA finding 1 yet when I went to its site it said dead.  Undaunted I enacted my fall back plan: find the mountain bike shop and ask them where they go to drink beer. They recommended the dead one that is really brewing like crazy. I walked over to it and sat at the bar. Shortly 2 guys, 1 older than me and the other a few years younger. I joined their conversation. John, the younger, is an active guy  per his profile in Garmin. He told me of riding around here. He told of the Discovery Trail that is paved from PA to Sequim. Weather forecast is for no rain. I’m going to give it a go. Zags play @ 12:30 drives my ride.

Widbey Island hosts an air station for Navy fighter jets, mostly F-18s. Very noisy and infrequent, they quit for all night and had not started when I left. Price of national security and jingoism. I stayed @ a camp ground in Whitefish (I believe) that was hard against a railroad track where trains went by. AT registration I was given foam ear plugs. If Widbey did it for residents the country would go broke. Window rattlers.

Another good experience of walking into a bar by myself and connecting w/ someone.
