Rain is coming

Get ‘er done before wet comes.

Yesterday I rerode the same ride as 10/ 16: Funner, Tiddlywinks, Kiwa, Tylers, Larsens, funner back. Out there riders have been more friendly. Weather forecast wanted rain and I wanted to finish b4. Heavy mist falling from the trees. On the climb the mist fell. I pedaled on and up and that was all I soaked up. Trails up high received rain making hero dirt. The Garmin recorded different values on the same ride. I bought a wheel computer but haven’t installed it. Randy, my 800 does not have the wheel feature you described. The FS is thinningOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA the forest down low big time, Trees are painted either blue or orange in different units, I haven’t figured the color scheme for harvest. Funner which is up higher goes thru an old thinned unit. Tylers traverse was so much fun as I am getting more enjoyment out of the bermed turns and ups and downs. Drop the seat and sit on it and steer w/ knees and handle bar. Up and down and all around. So much fun, what a bike and set up. I stayed dry.

Drove back into town for a shower etc. Dave, the PT, gave me 2 exercises using a yellow stretch tube that I have been doing 2X day to rebuild strength in my right shoulder. I do a set right outside the door of his practice.

I drove to Newport Market. Before I stepped out a rider appeared @ driver’s window. Bearded guy said you know me. He hummed a few bars and I connected w/ him from a previous visit. Todd is a math prof and he sent me the math calculations for a silo house. He joined me latter @ 10 Barrels. He sure talked a lot. We made a ride date for today during which he told me he has been w/o his family for 2 weeks and he needed to socialize.

Todd pedaled away. A Sprinter pulled in and the driver waived @  me. I couldn’t place him as he walked over. He said Hi, I said help me remember you. He said you know me. Oh, he has a neck warmer beard. It was Fuzzy who used to work for Niner. We chatted for many minutes. I broke away for beer and he for groceries.

Then 10 Barrels. Todd the beer pourer and Todd the rider.

Out to forest for sleep. Mr. Happy hasn’t been here for several days.

Using the Propex heater. Last night I kept the temp down allowing the down blanket to be sufficient. Heater turned off several times during the night which is disparaging.

I drove to Phils TH to meet Todd. Last night the forecast called for rain after 11:00. This AM it just said rain. I did not want to ride in the rain. I was like the 5th rig in the greater parking area. Just @ 9 rigs w/ bikes started rolling in as did Todd. Today I wanted to ride down the river trail. Chilly as I wore full coverage layers and took my rain jacket. Another big ride: Marvins Garden, COD, Storm King, River Trail, COD, Marvins. Tree protection kept sprinkles off us and blocked the wind. Overcast and just warm /  chilly to be enjoyable. River trail runs alongside the Deschutes river

22.71 miles climbing 2240 in 3 hours of pedaling. Pedal up to coast back down.

Bid Todd adieu. Heater finally started.

Drove into town for shower etc. There is a Patagonia store in town and I was hankering for a pair of  their pants. All his gear wears so well. I am wearing my Pisgah jersey. I walk into the store where a woman says she knows Pisgah and how she did. Turns out Jen was a pro trail builder and knows a bunch of the same people I know and we have ridden a bunch of the same trails. She would mention one and I would answer her back on my experience there. She left biking to full time climb. I enjoyed our conversation for ability to connect w/ so many people and places I have been in my 75 month odyssey.

Back to 10 Barrels for a beer.

Weather forecast for Oakridge is just plain wet, likelihood of dry riding is nil. Bend is to be dryer. I need to drive over the pass into the rain to Oakridge to pick up my mail that I requested be sent there. Maybe later in the week.

Tonight the rain started falling here. Snug as a bug in a rug. raining pretty hard.

Tomorrow is weekly wash. Perhaps if the rain quits a  hero dirt ride.

Snow is not too far above here @ 3885′
