great dirt

Last night the temp remained in the 40s, too warm for my heater even on low. I turned it off part way thru the night. I could have slept w/ just a flannel sheet which didn’t make any sense. Shut off the heat and pull over the down blanket.

I drove back to Sedona to do my wash then drive down to VOC for 1:00 ride. Rain started falling while my clothes were in the dryer. I decided to drive down to VOC for the rideĀ  and let somebody make a ride decision. rain fell before I arrived. Jimmy analyzed his on line weather forecast and concluded the rain was up canyon. He gathered Duffy, Jeff, touron Phil, and me. We rode up Shades on wonderful tacky sand from the rain. Jimmy remained behind to speak w/ his ill dad, we waited for him @ the playground which is a slab of flat slick rock. Jeff and Duffy knew of this roll in line they wanted to ride. See for yourself:

He made it and so did Jeff. Me? I took pics.

Conventional work day and shitty weather kept the crowd down. Heading N we could see up canyon to rain clouds. We were still dry. We rode the length of Sleezy Breezy. I made several features I previously didn’t make. Getting a bit better. I rode all in the middle chain ring which keeps my heart rate down and collapsing from lack of breath. I am slower by prolly by the same amount. I took more time getting down Shades back to the shop. The others except Phil finished before the rain fell. I was dampened. A energy replacement beer. Plans were made for a morning ride tomorrow out @ Dry Creek. Forecast calls for showers after 11:00. We might finish our ride dry. I cancelled a PT appointment for ride. Shower @ Snap: clean body for clean sheets.

Last night for the second time I put a castor oil saturated cloth on my shoulder. My shoulder has less pain.

Drove back to crowded Deer Pass.

Tonight the Zags play BYU @ home. Plan is to watch it on line while using faster 4G device.

  1. Hi Craig, I came across your group this afternoon on templeton trail. I was riding the other direction heading to slim shady and high line. I stopped to let you guys by just before you guys hit a tricky section. By the time it dawned on me where I knew from the distance between us was to great. Anyhow we came across each other the first time in the Sun Valley area while I was out riding my dirt bike and then again in Moab in the spring (May?) 2011. We were on the same shuttle up to the rim and then ended up riding the magnifmagnificent 7 together plus another guy named Craig from Texas. I moved to Sedona last June. This was my 2nd ride in the past 2 months

  2. Hi again, I hit submit accidentally. Anyhow would be fun if I could join you for a ride or meet for a drink over the weekend if your still gonna be here.

  3. Talking Dude! I spoke with you at the “crossing” the other day. I was on a ride with “Windsurfer/Traildoc”. We have a great friend in Apache Junction. He’s responsible for some of the trails out at Gold Canyon. Good stuff happening out there. “K-trail & Tech-loop” are awesome among others. Let me know if you want some company out there. My buddy is “Transition Senior” on Mtbr.com. Cheers! Trey

  4. ESzter,
yes, i remember both meetings. And you camped @ Sand Flats across from me. The other guy’s name I believe was Kent. At Moab he jury rigged and air conditioner into the passenger window of his Westy. I remember seeing you, I think it was Shades. I am here till April except i prolly will take several short road trips. I hang @ Bike and Bean. The shop has friday rides w/ beer afterwards. I am able to ride when ever. I am would be happy to share a ride w/ you. Throw out an idea.
    Craig
